5 Top Tips for Wearing Opaque Tights in Winter

Hurrah for Opaque tights!
Opaque and Semi-opaque tights are a saviour from the cold weather and from being shrouded in trousers. Let’s face it a decent pair of Black opaque or semi opaque tights are as essential as the little black dress.
The great thing about black opaque tights is they can be dressed up or down and make wearing a mini completely acceptable regardless of your age! (As a 50-year-old this is amazingly liberating!)
TIP 1 – FLESH COLOURED TIGHTS
The top tip of all for thicker tights – NEVER wear flesh coloured tights over 20D! They are ageing and unflattering whatever your shape, size or age.
TIP 2 – MINI SKIRT
In classic tweed (currently trending again), the wool mini skirt with winter tights gives an incredibly chic casual look for the weekend, especially when you want to wear something more feminine or flirty than jeans. Pair with a cashmere twin set and heels or a cable arran jumper and ankle boots for the “Country Life” look without being frumpy.
Not confident about a mini then try denim at knee length- dressed up or down with in-trend accessories adds a new look outfit without updating your complete wardrobe.
TIP 3 – A DRESS
No matter what the length, winter tights can boost any dress and extend the wear you get from a spring or summer favourite. Add a coloured cardigan to a classic black dress to ‘jazz’ up work wear. Change to a metallic shrug to add a bit of sparkle for the perfect work-to-evening outfit.
TIP 4 - SHORTS
Yes, winter tights are great with shorts! And, like the mini skirt, can give you the opportunity to look great without appearing to dress like a teenager.
From dressy tailored shorts to casual denim cut-offs, leather to classic tweeds, add a shirt for more formal wear or a vest and leather jacket for the ‘rock chick’ look. Add accessories to change the mood of any outfit.
TIP 5 – SHOES, BOOTS or HEELS?
Boots and flats go well with opaque tights and can dress an outfit up or down. Chunky heels add a bit of glamour – and if you are not comfortable wearing flat shoes, give you the height. A classic stiletto will go with semi opaques but be cautious with thicker tights as they will tend to look out of place.
If you are short then be careful when wearing pale coloured shoes with opaque tights. Stick to a consistent colour scheme has a leg lengthening effect. If you are taller – lucky you, you will look great in any combination.
So don't hide your legs just because it's getting cold outside. Get more wear from your favourite spring / summer outfits by teaming them with some opaque or semi opaque tights.
