Spanx has released 'arm tights'

They hold me in in all the right places and I never have to worry about a little bit of bloating in a tight dress. Quite frankly, they’re a lifesaver when your drink’s a rum and coke.
What I’m not so sure about however, is Spanx’s newest release.
Arm tights.
Yes, you read that right: Arm tights. They’re exactly what they sound like – tights for your arms.
Now, don’t get me wrong, I know everyone has a different taste when it comes to fashion – but surely we can all agree that tights for your arms sounds a little ridiculous.
Of course, the tights don’t just come as separate sleeves – they’re connected to a crop top that’s meant to sit underneath your other clothing.
The arms come in a three-quarter length fashion and in all honesty, they don’t look all too bad. But that’s not the point – the point is that, well, they seem kind of pointless.
In a recent press release, the brand explained that the arm tights had come in response to an ‘overwhelming consumer demand’, and offer the ‘perfect style solution for transitional weather, or simply act as a cover up for those who typically shy away from sleeveless shape’.
And that sounds absolutely fine – but we all know how uncomfortable tight clothing can be, I’ve experienced it firsthand – and so I can only imagine that though at first glance, someone wearing these arm tights may feel fabulous, as the day goes on they may end up being incredibly uncomfortable – especially on a hot day.
Of course, we’re nearing winter now, but we’re still not sure how exactly they’re perfect for ‘transitional weather’, unless you’re wearing sleeves over the top during the winter – which totally defeats the ‘sleeveless shape’ aim – we can only imagine your arms will be pretty damn cold.
But overall, though the concept is new – the look is not. They consist of the same look a mesh top, often worn over a vest or crop top, has to offer – except these are much tighter and, judging by Spanx’s normal prices (with tights costing around £35) will likely be more expensive.
According to Spanx, the tops will offer various bust sizes and will come in a number of colours for those who don’t like to wear standard black, including yellow, pink and blue. So, if you’re wanting to go for an 80s vibe the pink under a blue leotard would work wonders.
And, they’d probably even work as pretty decent gym-wear.
But as everyday wear? Sorry, but we just can’t imagine wearing tights on our arms – especially as you can buy a simple shorter-sleeved top to achieve the same look. Granted, they don’t hold your arms in but they are probably much more comfortable.
But hey, as stated above, everyone’s different – so if wearing tights on your arms is your kind of thing, you do you, they’ll be available from 1 October at House of Fraser.
And if you’re going to try them on in store, just a heads up, you’ll probably want to try a size-up before buying – we all know just how tight Spanx can be, and we can’t imagine the pain of getting stuck in the arm tights and running around like a headless chicken begging the shop assistants to pull it off us.
