As you know, the holiday season is just around the corner. we, personally can’t wait for Christmas time. That’s why, we are glittering things up for this week’s DIY! The holidays are all about sparkling Christmas ornaments and pristine snowfall during a Winter Wonderland. And what better time of the year than Christmas time to wear sparkling clothing? This week, we came up with a tutorial for some amazing DIY glitter tights that you can wear to all your holiday parties and excursions. These DIY glitter tights are fun, fashionable and go beautifully with ankle boots and high heels. These glitter tights are sold in retail stores during the holiday season and while you are free to purchase them, why spend money when you can easily make your own? This week’s DIY tutorial does not take up a lot of time and only requires a few steps before you can step out this Christmas season with your new gorgeous DIY glitter tights. If you have some old nude pantyhose lying around your house, you can use them . So if you’re looking to spice up your attire for the winter and add this lovely accessory to your wardrobe, let’s get started!
What you will need:
Nude pantyhose
Spray adhesive/glue
Ultra-fine glitter
Scratch paper/Newspaper
1. Lay out your scratch paper or newspaper to catch the glitters from getting all over your place. Then lay your nude pantyhose flat against the paper.
2. Spray your spray adhesive to the pantyhose in sections.
3. Sprinkle a layer of glitter over the area you have sprayed. Try to sprinkle it as evenly across the pantyhose as possible. Repeat steps 2 and 3 until you have covered both sides of the pantyhose.
4. After you have finished applying glitter to both sides, carefully lift the pantyhose off the paper and gently shake the excess. Place your hand inside the pantyhose to separate both sides, as the spray adhesive may have caused them to stick to one another. Let your pantyhose dry for a couple of hours to make sure that all of the glitters are secured and there is no fall-out.
And voila! Aren’t these simply breathtaking? They may look pretty now, but we guarantee you will be even more amazed after you put them on. We used an ultra fine white iridescent glitter to mimic a sparkling snowflake after a snowfall, but you can use other colors such as gold or silver as well.We recommend wearing these with a skirt and ankle boots. Ankle boots have made a big splash in the fashion industry this year, and there’s nothing quite like a pair of booties to dress up an outfit. If you wish to wear shorts or skirts in the winter but want to remain warm, then wearing these DIY glitter tights are the perfect accessory.
What did you think of this week’s DIY tutorial? Are you a fan of wearing glitter tights in the winter? This has to be the easiest DIY I have ever featured on This Fashion Is Mine and sadly I cannot claim rights to discovering it. I've seen this multiple times on the Tumblr but not yet come across a neatly laid out step by step guide. Probably because it's too simple to even need one.
But hey-ho here is my step by step guide. All you need is a pair of tights and a pair of scissors.
Go and get those things now.
But hey-ho here is my step by step guide. All you need is a pair of tights and a pair of scissors.
Go and get those things now.
You can use an old pair of tights or buy a brand new pair, 10-20 denier works the best, I am using a medium sized 15 denier pair from Primark. I got a pack of 5 for £2.50.
You need to cut the toes/feet off the tights. The amount you cut off depends on how long or short you want your sleeves to be.
You then need to cut a small V shape in the gusset of your tights. This will ultimately become the neck line of your top and the place where you shall stick your head.
And that's it. Honest!
Sticking your arms through the legs and your head through your newly formed gusset hole (cringe) you have yourself a mesh/sheer top! Perfect to wear over fancy bras or bralets, or to layer over a little black cami.
Pulling on the top stretches the neckline much wider so be careful to only start out with a small hole. Also the tight material is very thin so susceptible to laddering. But this can result in a grungey fashionable look. My top laddered a little on the shoulder but I actually like it this way

It's a great item to wear for a night out or to a gig. It takes two minutes and you instantly have a new addition to your wardrobe that might have originally cost you a fair amount to buy. If you ruin it on the first wear it's no biggie, you can just make another one!

DIYYYY!!!!!
I know you love DIY tutorials and oh my god how much I do too! Since forever have I been a girl who likes to make things. I think the two reasons for the same would be – (a) being broke all the time (b) being a creative head. I mean no, I am not an immensely creative person but I’d like to believe that a certain and good extent I am. Art Attack and MAD would be one of my favourites on TV and oh how sick my mother would get watching me make all weird things I did. She would later just throw them away of course!
Anyways, in a nut shell, I love DIYs and wearing things I make. You feel like a tiny designer in yourself when you wear you own stupid creation.
And well how often do we find our soul mates? I found my creative soulmate in Charuta. You know her from her blog Modayalda. She is all sorts of crazy like me and while I stick my DIY experiments to myself, she actually sells what she makes? Isn’t that amazing?
We have collaborated before but this time we did it for the one thing that brings us together, our love for DIYs. Let’s take a jump into the post and see what we are serving you today.
Pinterest is one destination I cannot do without. A pool of endless ideas. This is where I came across sheer tights with lace and pearls over them and the next thing you know, I was making my own.
If you love them as much as I do, you’ll need:
A pair of sheer tights (bought mine just for INR 75)
Some white patterned lace (INR 30 for a metre)
Fake pearls
Thread and needle OR fabric glue
The process is actually really simple. All you need to do is first cute the lace in the pattern you want. I cut out the designs of the flower so I could place it the way I wanted. Now, you just need to stitch them together. It does get a little tough, I actually rolled a hard paper and put it in so separate the two layers and started sewing.
Infact I would recommend fabric glue to get away with all the extra work. The next time I make one, I am using the same. Just dab some glue and get going.
Be careful enough to put all of this only on the front part of the tights and not the one which which will cover the back of your legs. And within not more than 150rs you have with yourself a pair of cute lacey tights. I totally love how they ended up looking.
Below are some more pictures with my beauty of a friend. She also did a little something with lace and pearls and as you will see in the pictures, turned her otherwise boring sweater into a vintage beauty. I love how gorgeous it looks. You must check out how she made it, in her own words here at modayalda.com.

GET THRIFTY AND NEVER LET A PAIR OF OLD TIGHTS GO TO WASTE AGAIN!
REUSE, REPURPOSE, RECYCLE…
- Remove deodorant residue from clothing – use the old tight as a mitt to brush off residue
- Keep your hairbrush clean – starting with a clean brush, cut a strip from the tights to cover the brush. Push down onto the bristles – a hair grip will help you push the fabric right down. Next time your brush needs cleaning simply lift the nylon off and start again.
- Decorate pumpkins at Halloween – wrap lacy patterned tights over small gourds
- Cut off the tops of stockings/hold ups and reuse as hair bands and scrunchies
- Curling your hair – heat-free and natural looking curls created using strips of nylon from your old tights. Learn how
- Sweet smelling sachets: Fill with potpourri or lavender to keep drawers and wardrobes smelling lovely. They also work well when filled with moth balls to prevent damage to clothing in storage.
- Plant pets – stuff the toe end of a stocking leg with soil and plant grass seeds within the ball, approx the size of a tennis ball. Cut out some paper features like lips and eyes. Pop it on a dish in the sun light, water from time to time and watch the grass hair grow!
- Cleaning hard-to-reach places – Having trouble reaching dust bunnies living beneath your fridge? Ball up your old tights and use an elastic band to secure them to a coat hanger (or similar long item). The dust will cling to the nylon like magic!
- Do you have a cat or dog who likes to sleep on your bed and leave lots of fur behind? Try using an old pair of tights to rub the fur off your duvet cover - lifts off like a dream!
- Slip over the end of your vacuum cleaner nozzle to act as a filter when searching for small missing items – such as jewellery. Making sure the toe is in tact, slip the leg over the nozzle and secure with a rubber band.
- Jewellery - Get creative and turn your old tights into necklaces and bracelets. Check out this amazing yellow tights necklace from Fashion My Legs.
- Covering your fish tank filter – to stop any little critters getting sucked in! And if you’re lucky enough to have your own pool, use nylons to cover your filter to avoid hairs, leaves and dirt getting stuck in your filter.
- Efficient suitcase packing: Squeeze more in by rolling up your clothes and cover them in flexible nylon tubes to stop them unravelling. Simply cut the legs off, snip off the foot and stretch the stockings over your rolled-up garments.
- Straining lumps from old paint tins – cover the receptacle opening with nylon, you could even use the waistband to hold the sheet in place. Hey presto – a ready-made paint strainer!
- Works of art - get creative and create sculptures and artwork using your old tights. Take inspiration from Irene Anton's series of hosiery sculptures.
- Bedding storage – Keep your spare duvet, pillows and blankets neat and tidy whilst in storage by using the waistband from your old pair of tights. Simply slip it around the rolled up bedding like a large ‘elastic band’.
- Avoid rubbish bag slipping down – Secure your bin liner in place by cutting off the waistband of your old tights and slipping it around the bin.
- Keep draughts at bay; Stuff legs with newspaper and tie off to make draught excluders to sit at the base of a draughty door.
- Replacement stuffing - for soft toys, cushions, pillows, sofa cushions etc
- Keep wrapping paper rolled up – pop a leg over the roll, or several at a time to keep them neat until you need them next
- Store onions, potatoes, garlic and plant bulbs - hang them in a cool, dry and dark place, such as a pantry, to promote good air circulation and keep them from rotting.
- Gardeners tips: Put soap bar scraps into the toe end of a stocking leg. Tie up beside an outdoor tap so you can wash muddy hands before re-entering the house.
- Useful in the garden as ties for climbing vegetables or plants, or for supporting large vegetables as they grow, like marrows or melons.
- Re-potting plants; When moving a houseplant to a larger pot, use a piece of nylon at the bottom of the new pot. It will act as a liner that lets the excess water flow out without draining the soil along with it.
- Give them to the man in your life to wear under his trousers in the colder months – particularly if he has to work outdoors! If he’s willing, he’ll thank you for it! Especially if it’s your old Fleecy Opaques!

Materials: 30 inches of silver curb chain
Worn out black nylons
Chain plier and round nose plier ( Jewelry-Tool-Guide)
Needle and black thread
Jewelry cutter
Ruler
1. With the pliers, separate four strands of 4 in each of the chain, two strands of 3 in, and four of 2 in .
2. This is the fun part. Put on the tights and start ripping little holes on them with the cutter (be creative). Make sure that you have distributed the holes all around your leg, not just in the front of the tights.
3. Once you're done ripping the tights line up the strands of chains, from longest to shortest, for each leg. I used two of the 4 in strands, one 3 in, and two 2 in chains for one leg .
4. Carefully take your needle and thread and start sewing the chains to the tights. Sew only the ends of the chain. Remember to space them out equally on your leg. Stay next to a mirror to check the placement of the chains. When you are done with leg 1 place the chains on your other leg symmetrically.
5. Now you have rockin' tights that can add some grunge to your outfit!
